Since you are at this website you probably
already knew Jen Collins, but just in case you didn't know her
very well, here is some more detailed information about her.
Jen was a Washington native, raised in Kent by her parents, Ken & Fran, and
lived on
Beacon Hill with her
husband,
Mark, and stepdaughter Shaekira (when she isn't away at Gonzaga University
in Spokane). She
was the
bookkeeper at Sostanza Restaurant in the Madison Park neighborhood of
Seattle and had worked
there for just over 8 years. Her absolute favorite pastime was chasing around the band
that her husband plays
drums for,
Latigo Lace. She was a huge fan and season ticket holder of the Seattle
Seahawks and was an
important
member of "Save our Seahawks", a campaign that Mark spearheaded that was
instrumental in keeping
the team in Seattle. "Working with and meeting players, fans and employees
of the Seahawks was an
incredible experience", Jennie said, "And of course, we were able to keep
our team right here, where they
belong, so all the work paid off." The Seattle Mariners were another big
interest of Jen's and she went to as
many games as she could. Thankfully, we had a few friends that have season
tickets that can’t always use them…
they all know that if they need
someone to use their tickets, Jen was one to call. Edgar was her
favorite for years! Until her passing she was trying to figure out
how to introduce Shaekira to Jeremy
Reed. "I think I could definitely consider him for a son-in-law!"
Jen said.
At age 34, while still feeling like a 23 year old, her life took a very
drastic turn that was leaving her feeling
older than her years. "Realizing that we aren't as bulletproof as we would
like to think, is a hard pill to
swallow." said Jen. The other feeling that was constantly nagging at her
was the fact
that her cancer was
a cause of her
poor choices in the past. "Being a smoker of more than 15 years, I know
that this is a direct
result of that
choice. There aren't many worse feelings of being a victim of your own
stupidity." she added.
(Note: The following paragraph has been
left intact just as Jen wrote it)
"Looking back over the last few year is a little strange. Up until I
was diagnosed, I lived life day by day, going
with the flow and not really thinking about who I was or what I wanted to
accomplish. Now, obviously, I have
a VERY clear goal that I am working towards and everything that I do has a
reason behind it. This next
statement sounds weird, ok, really weird, but I can't even imagine where I
would be or what I would be doing
without cancer in my life. The fight against it has become a part of
me. I have learned so much about myself,
my family, my friends and the disease itself. These lessons are
something that I would have never learned
had I not gone through all this and they apply to so many other areas of
life. I am so extremely excited to
get to a point where I am in remission but still have all this knowledge
and strength."
Jen tried to post an update every couple weeks with Chemo details, life
updates, and general information
about what she was going through. She said that someday, if there is
any interest, the updates page may
help her "story" to be written. She loved getting email from anyone
that visits the website and she tried to
respond to everyone. Thank you for keeping up with her fight. |
